Font Playing Cards

Starting as an attempt to improve the design of playing card boxes, this quickly turned into a redesign of the cards themselves. I incorporated a font of my own design on the cover and the cards and the suits were designed to complement the font. The font itself has a science fiction aspect to it, which is further enhanced by the cosmic design in the background and the suit colors.

Star Wars Poster

Designed shortly before the theatrical release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, this poster was an experiment with typography, trying to convey emphasis and emotion using only text and color. While the design itself is fairly simple, the text and illustrations work together to give the poster a visual hierarchy and keep the design well balanced.

Jamtastic Album Cover

This piece was the cover of the most recent album of a rising hip-hop artist in Minneapolis. Inspired by the cover of the NBA Jam video game, this piece is designed to elicit a sense of nostalgia for anyone who grew up in the late 90s.

Fan Build Magazine

Fan Build is a magazine that showcases the LEGO creations made by fans of LEGO. The layout itself is very image heavy, which can get difficult to balance when trying to include article text. This was one of the first magazine layouts I had done and I found it to be a very educational process, learning how to stick to a grid and keep a common theme throughout all the pages.

Chinese Character Posters

These posters were designed for a Chinese immersion school to help the students read Chinese better. They use illustrations to translate the characters instead of words, helping to easily understand the language. Each character is incorporated into the illustrations as well. This made the illustration process more difficult because the character couldn’t be viewed as a character or word, but as a set of lines already in the design.
