Houdini Portrait

This piece was done as part of a series of portraits of famous individuals from the late ninetieth and early twentieth century who were mysterious or connected to the occult. All of them were surrounded by vignettes of objects, people, and places to help illustrate their stories. I used images of handcuffs and restraining devices to show the breadth of feats Houdini performed to be known as the Great Escapist.

Space Tourism Poster

This poster was made combining 1950's & 60's graphic styles with National Parks artwork done during the Federal Arts Project of the Great Depression. My Idea was to advertise Pluto by its location in our solar system, showing a parent and child looking back at the solar system with other planets receding into the background. The parent points to Earth, creating a scene of exploration and connection to the journey taken.

Record Album Art

I created this Illustration for the Duluth based band, Brothers Band. They are a psychedelic band, in the vein of Hawk Wind and Sleep. When asked to create a cover, I reworked a sketch I had of the legend of Danu, who poured forth the cosmos. She pours the cosmos from the skull, forming the group's name. I wanted to create a light effect on her as if she were illuminated by the stars, while also creating a sense of mystery by slightly hiding her full face with the skull and her hair. The band and I wanted the cover to remain bright so the red was chosen to give it a bright visceral feel.

Word Mark Redesign

This project is a redesign of the Canidae word mark. Their current word mark lacked the free, adventurous spirit of the product and its imagery. The brand is based on the product for athletic, adventurous, rustic dogs. The script font is to give the name a sense of authenticity and the red coloration alludes to a warm, hearty meal.

Artist Promotional Poster

This poster was a promotional piece for an artist talk at MCTC Student Design Club. I wanted to show the variety of media that the artist works in, by using small snippets of work. I cropped vignettes of her work and placed them in slanted shapes to draw the viewer down the path of the poster and repeated this with some of the information. I also wanted to simulate some of her website aesthetic in the use of fonts and stark white, with the images supplying the colors.
