Quote by Tim Burton

This design was an experimental project of mine, meant to be my first take on making a creative deco font. I wanted to go with a quote that inspires me to design freely. I used a famous quote by Tim Burton, "One persons craziness is another persons reality". For the word craziness, I wanted to make each letter look like little monsters, and for the word reality I made the letters look like 3D blocks. I'm inspired by this quote to keep trying to create my own style by following the examples of those I look up to.

Hollow Ball

This was a project I cooked up in photoshop by using a mixture of three pictures that were a part of my life. First, I used a picture of an anime mask representing my interest in Japanese animation. Second, a picture of a sphere sculpture at Target painted like a Pokeball. Last, a picture of my backyard in Autumn because it's one of my favorite seasons. When I merged them together, I used photoshop layer effects to give the picture an interesting look.

Burton Coloring Book Page

When I first started out in graphic design, I used the trace method in Adobe illustrator using photos and the pen tool. The subject I used for this design was trace images of Tim Burton and everything that relates to him. When choosing what to put into the page, I wanted to go with things like popular characters of Tim's creation such as the famous Jack Skellington and his version of the Cheshire Cat. I always find it easy to get creative when using Tim Burton's work for subject material.

Spring Bird Mug Pattern

For as long as I can remember, I have always seen unique pictures and patterns on coffee mugs and wondered if I could make my own unique design. When designing the pattern, I used my initials in a script font and overlapped them. I later added color in various parts before turning the design into a pattern. I used the concept of optical illusion in the pattern so some might see birds and some might see flowers. The point of the pattern is to exercise the imagination that dwells within the mind of all designers.

Nightmare Harlequin

This design is one I reflected on when I was thinking of an idea for a custom Halloween poster of a monster. At first I was having a hard time making a monster, but the idea later came to me after I fell asleep. I was dreaming of a demonic harlequin that kept coming from out of nowhere to scare me with a creepy, spine chilling grin. I brought my monster to life in Adobe Illustrator, created entirely from memory. It was my first monster design that turned out as well as it did in a dream. Using our fears and nightmares as inspiration, we can design terrifyingly great monsters.
